The Belsira Bikini one

I love water. Seaside, lakes, even the pool, just plop me down next to a body of water and I’m happy. It’s a great tragedy of my life then, that I have a sun allergy and that my summers are mostly spent slathered in a very high SPF sunscreen.  This, however, doesn’t stop me from swimming every chance I get, and I’ve developed a deep and passionate love for evening and late night swims in the bay of the small fishing village I run away to in the summer.

It’s almost winter here, and I’ve been kind of missing the hot summer days a bit, and the joy of wearing a swimsuit and not much else as I lounge about in the shade with a good book and a cool drink.  The nasty cold I seemed to have caught isn't helping much either. So, I dug up some photos I took for Belsira this summer, featuring their adorable, vintage-style swimsuit, and figured I’d take the chance to do a small review of it as well.

It’s really easy to mess up with a vintage swimsuit cut. If you go the full vintage way, they can look too bulky and grandmotherly, if you make them too modern they stop resembling the vintage inspiration and you just get another swimsuit. But so far, Belsira has proven to walk the modern pinup line competently, and this was no exception.  I’m very picky about my swimsuits. I want them to be equal parts cute and functional, and since I am kind of petite, most of the suits with bra style straps are completely useless to me. This one, however, ties around the neck (yay!) and ties at the back as well (double yay) so there is no risk of it dislodging when I swim, and the bottom part is also very cute and just the way I like it- a bit higher to hide some old surgery scars that still make me feel a bit self-conscious, even years later.
The cups are lightly padded, but I think that this serves more to keep the shape and prevent the pinched, flattened boob look bandeau tops can produce, which is, of course, another bonus.

I’m a bit sad I didn’t get to properly test it in the water this summer since work prevented me from my usual vacation time, but as I trimmed down a bit more since these photos were taken, I’m confident it will fit me even better next year!

until next time!
xoxo
