The Pink Dress

About once in a blue moon I reach for my sewing machine and some patterns to make something for myself. I am not very skilled, and have the disadvantage of knowing weird tidbits and tricks about tailoring I picked up from my grandparents, but missing a lot of the basics I never learned, and I tend to get frustrated when things don’t go as smoothly or I don’t make as much progress as I hope.

I bought the fabrics for this dress a couple of years ago, with the intention of making a walk-away dress identical to my black and polkadot one, but never found the time and/or the will. What finally triggered it was the wonderful owner of TheBlack Cat Jewellery Store who asked if I’d be interested in modelling one of her latest creations, a beautiful cameo on a black velvety band.  My thoughts turned immediately to the fabric and I said that of course I would, and I will make a dress to go with it.
After discussing it all with Brocade Budoir, we decided to finally make our walk away dresses together, as we had planned last summer, and so we met up in the Budoir itself, and got to work after a restorative cup of tea.

The pattern declares it a Walk Away Dress because you’re allegedly able to “start it after breakfast, and walk away in it to lunch!” This was… optimistic. I think it took us 2 days to make it, because I am slow and Tajana drew up another pattern and created another garment or two on the side.

Two days later it was done, and a few days after that I met up with the lovely GretaMaCabre and we set off to the Botanical Gardens for a little photo session. It was very sunny, and there were far too many highschool kids, but we somehow managed to take our photos, and the results are what you see.

As for the cameo itself, it is the usual Black Cat Jewellery standard- that is to say it is beautiful, made with obvious love, care and talent, and found a welcome and loving home in my jewellery box.

I also wore a Collectif cardigan I got this winter, and I am over the moon with how beautiful and well made it is!

Until next time!

xoxo
